Påfyll: Kvinnekamp i Iran

Renowned poet, editor, activist, and midwife Fatemeh Ekhtesari fled Iran in 2015, escaping a harsh sentence of 99 lashes and eleven and a half years in prison for her poetry on sexuality, gender, and women’s rights. She became a refuge writer in Lillehammer in 2017, with her poems translated into Norwegian. Her work, already translated into multiple languages, has earned international recognition and awards. Ekhtesari, now a prominent voice in Norway, manages a Persian online magazine and shares her writings on social media.

In November 2022, her collection “Hun er ikke kvinne” (She is not a woman) was released, featuring poems crafted simultaneously in Persian and Norwegian. Part of the “Parallell” series, initiated by Leser søker bok and published by Aschehoug forlag, it showcases bilingual poetry by poets residing in Norway.

Ekhtesari will present a parallel poetry reading and engage in conversation with Hanna B. Bugge, advisor at Leser søker bok. The event, conducted in collaboration with Leser søker bok, is part of Mother Language Week 2023 and will include readings in both Persian and Norwegian, with the conversation conducted in English.
